Outward Bound was founded in 1941 by Lawrence Holt and Kurt Hahn as a school for merchant seamen. They taught young sailors the skills and attitude needed to survive catastrophe and shipwreck. After the war, Outward Bound developed an educational programme that promoted the principles of independence and self-awareness through outdoor learning experiences. Outward Bound Netherlands was established in 1964 in Renesse on the Zeeland coast. Today, we are the leading provider of experiential outdoor education in The Netherlands and a proud partner of Outward Bound International, a network of more than 40 Outward Bound schools spread around the globe.
