Our Strong Schools™ programme aims to support school leaders and staff to create extraordinary strengths-based learning experiences that boost engagement, learning, and performance and ultimately transform cultures.

Our challenging outdoor education programmes help young people recognise and apply their unique character strengths to reach their goals and find greater meaning, engagement, happiness, and balance in life. We believe our work is too important to leave to chance and opinions. That’s why everything we do is grounded in the science of character strengths and research on positive education and honed to achieve the most significant impact.
To support school leaders and staff to build on their student’s course experiences at Outward Bound, we developed our Strong Schools™ programme. On a three-day programme, we take school leaders and staff on a journey to build their knowledge, skills, and confidence to implement the science of character strengths and positive education in their practice of teaching and learning in the classroom.
This immersive Outward Bound experience ensures schools have champions on the ground who can advocate for the integration of the science of character strengths and positive education throughout the school system.
Once they complete the course, they can access our online resources, various character strength products, and virtual coaching.

In order to enhance students’ social and emotional learning skills we are using the following six building blocks:

Build Engagement: the regular development of our strengths – those things we are good at and enjoy doing.
Invest in Relationships: the creation of authentic, energising connections with others.
Foster Meaning: a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves.

Heighten Health: establishing habits that increase physical and mental health.

Step One
DESIGNING THE COURSE
We start at the beginning, spending time getting to know you, your school, and your unique challenges. Working alongside your school leaders and their team, we determine the best outcomes for your staff. Through our unique collaborative process, we tailor our approach to deliver engaging, applicable, and memorable learning experiences.

Step two
DELIVERING THE
COURSE
We deploy a team of highly-trained facilitators and performance coaches dedicated and committed to boost engagement and performance of your staff. They deliver programmes anywhere in The Netherlands or beyond, one-day or multiple-day, at one of our locations or your facility. Physical challenges are tailored for each group.

Step three
POST-COURSE
COACHING
Our post-course coaching will look at developing a coaching relationship with your school leaders and their teams once their Outward Bound course is complete. Our expert performance coaches will build on the course experience to support and motivate your leaders to realise the commitments they made whilst on the Outward Bound course.
